Lyrics
In days of old, when David ruled the land,
There stood three mighty men at his command.
Their deeds of valor, their unwavering might,
Brought glory to their king and God's delight.
O Lord of Hosts, how blessed am I
To have such men, beneath Your sky!
Their strength, their courage, their faithful hearts,
Show forth Your glory in all their parts.
Sing of the mighty, the brave, the true!
Heroes of Israel, tried and new!
Jashobeam, Eleazar, and Benaiah,
Their names we praise, their deeds we admire!
Jashobeam, chief of the captains bold,
Against three hundred, his spear he did hold.
Eleazar stood firm when others did flee,
In fields of barley, he gained victory.
Three hundred foes before me stand,
But God Almighty guides my hand.
With faith unshaken, my spear I raise,
For Israel's glory, for Jehovah's praise!
Though armies flee, I'll hold my ground,
In fields of barley, courage is found.
The Lord our banner, our strength and shield,
To Philistine hordes we shall not yield!
Stand fast, stand strong, let courage rise!
The God of battles rules the skies!
Through these great heroes, His power we see,
For David's kingdom, for Israel free!
When David longed for water from his home,
These three broke through where enemies did roam.
Through Philistine lines, they fought their way,
To bring their king water that fateful day.
This water, brought at such a price,
I cannot drink – 'tis sacrifice.
The blood of heroes, loyal and true,
I pour to God, this honor due.
For you, our king, we'd give our all,
No fear too great, no foe too tall.
Your wish our command, your word our law,
In service to you, we stand in awe.
Benaiah, son of Jehoiada brave,
In snowy pit, a lion he did slay.
An Egyptian giant, five cubits high,
Fell to his prowess, 'neath Israel's sky.
In snowy depths or scorching sand,
God's strength empowers my righteous hand.
No beast too fierce, no foe too strong,
When fighting for right against the wrong.
Behold the might of faithful few,
Whose hearts to God and king are true!
In David's mighty men we see
A glimpse of greater victory!
Praise to the Lord, the God of might,
Who guards His own through day and night!
In valor's deeds, in sacrifice pure,
His love and power forever endure!
From David's time to endless days,
Let faith arise, let courage blaze!
For greater than sword, or spear, or shield,
Is the heart that to God its all will yield!
As ages passed, from David's royal line,
Came One whose sacrifice would be divine.
The Son of God, yet Son
For greater than sword, or spear, or shield,
Is the heart that to God its all will yield!
As ages passed, from David's royal line,
Came One whose sacrifice would be divine.
The Son of God, yet Son of David too,
Brought living water, salvation true.
Behold, the Mighty One draws near,
God's own Son, to mankind dear.
Greater than David, yet servant of all,
He comes to redeem us from Adam's fall.
Lo! The Triune God revealed in time:
Father, Spirit, Son sublime!
As David's men breached enemy lines,
Christ breached death's hold with power divine.
From life's pure fountain, He drew salvation,
His blood outpoured for every nation.
Not water from Bethlehem's ancient well,
But living streams that death dispel.
Mighty in battle, faithful and true,
He conquered sin, made all things new.
His sacrifice, beyond compare,
Offers life eternal, beyond despair.
Come, all who thirst, to Jesus run!
Drink deep the grace of God's own Son!
This water, freely given to all,
Raises the humble, lifts those who fall.
Three persons, One God, in majesty,
Father, Spirit, Son - Blest Trinity!
As David praised for valor shown,
We praise the Victor on heaven's throne!
From David's mighty men of old,
To Christ, our Champion bold!
From earthly deeds of sacrifice,
To heaven's redemption beyond all price!
Let every heart this truth proclaim:
In Jesus' blood, we're freed from shame!
All who believe shall life receive,
In Him we trust, in Him believe!
From David's mighty men of old,
To Christ, our Champion bold!
From earthly deeds of sacrifice,
To heaven's redemption beyond all price!
Let every heart this truth proclaim:
In Jesus' blood, we're freed from shame!
All who believe shall life receive,
In Him we trust, in Him believe!
