Robert Toru Kiyosaki
Born April 8, 1947, in Hilo, Hawaii, is an American entrepreneur, investor, author, and motivational speaker. He is best known for his "Rich Dad Poor Dad" series, which has become a cornerstone in personal finance literature.
After graduating from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1969, Kiyosaki served as a helicopter gunship pilot in the Vietnam War, earning an Air Medal for his service. Following his military career, he ventured into business, founding companies that experienced both successes and failures, providing him with valuable financial insights.
In 1997, Kiyosaki co-authored "Rich Dad Poor Dad," a book that contrasts the financial philosophies of his "rich dad"—a friend's father who was a successful entrepreneur—and his "poor dad," his biological father who was an educated man but struggled financially. The book emphasizes financial literacy, investing in assets, understanding money management, and challenging traditional beliefs about wealth and education.
Building on the success of his book, Kiyosaki founded The Rich Dad Company, offering financial education through books, videos, seminars, and games like the CASHFLOW board game, designed to teach investing and financial strategies. His teachings advocate for economic independence through investments in real estate, businesses, and other assets, encouraging individuals to take control of their financial futures.
Kiyosaki has authored over 26 books, with the "Rich Dad" series translated into 51 languages and selling over 27 million copies worldwide. He continues to be a prominent figure in financial education, sharing his knowledge through various media and speaking engagements, aiming to empower people to achieve financial freedom.
